There is little understanding among private players on how international trade law can benefit them. The traditional wisdom on this is that it is all too complex and it is up to the governments to understand and make those rules.
Although the WTO has been around for a while, many big and small companies still do not understand what the system has to offer. This is frequently attributed to their lack of interest in the WTO negotiations, which have not delivered on their Doha promises. The other reason, and understandably so, is the plethora of overlapping treaties, which regulate trade and investment bilaterally.
In pursuit of further trade liberalization, governments have signed or are negotiating many new Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), crisscrossing the globe. The way these treaties link to one another can have important implications for companies’ value chains. On the other hand, governments also know that well prepared trade negotiations strategies can bring quick benefits to their economies as a whole.
This is why in this special day I am happy to announce the launching of Trade Pacts – a newly established trade and investment law advisory based in Geneva, Switzerland.
Our mission is to help both private companies and governments to navigate the complexities of international trade and investment rules. We are the ones who can tell you what is in there for you!
If you are a private company, by leveraging these instruments, you will expand your business and save costs. You will defend your business against overly restrictive and unjustified regulation. There is a lot behind those text, which can be used in your favor. We will demystify that language for you!
If you are a government, we will help you with multilateral and bilateral trade negotiations in order to get the deal which best fits your economic interests. We will help understanding the best direction for your international trade policy and how to make the best out of your participation in the WTO. We will also work with you in order to build the capacity of your government in this field.
